As one of the first Swedish skincare lines, Astaxin Stockholm from AstaReal AB has now received official NMPA registration in China. This is a mandatory step to enable sales in physical retail stores in China. Until now, Astaxin skincare could only be sold cross-border.
“This is a major milestone for us and proof that our products meet the most rigorous standards, both in terms of ingredient quality and overall product performance,” says Annelie Gunnarsson, Brand Manager at AstaReal AB.
The approved registration of the Astaxin Stockholm skincare line means the company has now met the strict requirements of China’s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) to sell its products in physical stores in China.
“Our team in Shanghai launched the skincare line at China Beauty Expo in mid-May. And now that we have secured the registration, they can begin selling to selected premium retailers across the country, with a particular focus on major cities. This is the same strategy we apply in Sweden and across Europe.”
Scandinavian skincare brands enjoy a strong reputation in China, thanks to their high quality, among other factors. This gives Swedish skincare a competitive edge, especially among women in metropolitan areas such as Shanghai, Beijing, and Guangzhou.
“This, combined with the rapidly growing interest in astaxanthin in Asia, just as in the rest of the world, gives our products every opportunity to succeed in the Chinese market.”
Extensive quality control
NMPA’s requirements cover everything from each individual ingredient and all steps of the manufacturing process to the substantiation of every claim made on the product packaging.
“The process has been both extensive and complex, but we have always known that our products meet the quality standards and fulfill real consumer needs.”
AstaReal AB has been carefully working on developing the optimal formulations for the Astaxin skincare line and validating each ingredient according to Chinese regulations.
“Reaching this point is thanks to a successful collaboration with our local team in Shanghai and our dedicated regulatory work. Our goal now is to position Astaxin as a premium skincare brand on the Chinese market.”
