AstaReal AB is adding the patented swallowing aid Medcoat to its product portfolio in Sweden. The product coats tablets with a smooth, taste-improving layer that makes them easier to swallow – a significant help for children, the elderly, and patients with swallowing difficulties.
“Medcoat is a unique and well-proven innovation that truly makes a difference in people’s daily lives. Just like our other brands, Medcoat stands for high quality, strong scientific backing, and meets a clear consumer need,” says Peter Carlsson, Business Area Manager at AstaReal AB.
Medcoat was originally developed at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in the early 2000s. Today, the product is patented in both Europe and the United States, manufactured in Sweden, and sold in pharmacies and through e-commerce.
“I’ve worked with this product for many years and have seen several cases where seriously ill patients were unable to swallow their medications—and Medcoat proved to be absolutely life-changing. Many medications affect the mucous membranes and make it difficult for patients to take their pills, and that’s where Medcoat makes a real difference.”
The addition of Medcoat to the portfolio is yet another step in AstaReal AB’s strategic expansion in the consumer market. The company previously brought distribution of its own product Astaxin in-house, along with the garlic supplement Kyolic in the Swedish and Norwegian markets.
